| _______________ | 6 | | Venice through 85 1.8 | Many of you may wonder why in the world would someone torture himself by taking shots of Venice almost exclusively with the good ol’ 85 1.8 which is a portrait lens. 85 mm in those crowded narrow streets. Hell yeah . It was mounted on Canon 1 Ds mkIII. I also had a second cam, Canon 30D, which I used with my Sigma 18-50 2.8 Macro. The original plan was to use the new Sigma 12-24, but something came up and I had to use 18-50 2.8. That was a real shame, because I’m sure 12-24+85 1.8 would be a perfect combo on a FF camera. I wouldn’t miss the 24-85 mm range, since I’d either shoot with a really wide angle to get crazy perspectives (as in geometric distortions) or in some cases to get everything in the frame in those narrow streets of Venice or I’d use the 85 1.8 for details as well as for general architecture shots. I’m really sorry thumbnails can’t be enlarged. Almost every time WP gets updated, something doesn’t work anymore. I hate it and I’ll try to fix it. So try to enjoy this small sized images (some of you may have already seen it on facebook). EDIT: My mean man Luc fixed it. Thanx Luc, you’re the shit! Many restaurants offer fresh sea food
I was fascinated with doorbells

“Mailboxes”
Door handles. Well not really…
And again a typical venetian doorbell
One of the alleys
Colors…
Burano!!!! My (by far) favourite part of Venice. All those colours, less tourists…It’s really gorgeus.
A typical Burano alley. So colorful.
Even cats are cooler on Burano. So relaxed, mediterranean slow paced
Colors, colors!!!
Some manage to ruin the overall awesome impression of Burano, with kitchy add-ons like this

Did I add too much contrast?
Well what do you say about this one ?
Colors again
And for the last finally a gondola. I just couldn’t catch one from the front (under the right light conditions), there were really few tourists in Venice that day (thankfully), so I guess that reflected on the number of gondola’s.
I’m going to publish the 18-50 2.8 shots in a separate post. That’s it for now, see you in a week or so . | | Wed, 1.07.2009, 12:36 | |
| _______________ | 7 | | Venice through standard zoom | It’s really just an add-on of the previous post – as I already mentioned I didn’t take many shots with this lens. So I’m posting just a few Burano photos.

Cats were really cool, without a worry in the world just lying across the path. The owner had to literally drag it off the street (unfortunately too soon for me to make a good shot).

| _______________ | 10 | | Simply Red - Ljubljana - The Last Time | Simply Red visited Ljubljana third time in their 25 year history. If Mick Hucknall doesn't change his mind, this was the last time too, as his plan is to retire Simply Red brand and work on other music and solo projects. Whatever happens, i will remember them in a positive light. The concert we shot in Hala Tivoli was pretty cool, and our positions for shooting first two songs were quite nice to - not below the stage, but on the stage. This is a very rare place to shoot on big shows with world names..(it only happened to me once with Robert Plant , but even that was on stage but waaay back from the edge of stage).
I knew Mick holds his microphone with his left hand and the mic wire stays in his right hand most of the time, so my position wish was stage right..to get him open...This is why it is importaint to prepare for such events in every manner and chances for great pictures will be better. Anyway, we were there for two songs and altough Mick looked at public most of the time, there were a couple of moments when he came like one meter away from my position. I could actually giv him Hi 5 , that close..and as you can see below this provided an excellent opportunity for nice picture from an unusual angle. I loved the cold beer after we finished with the business and enjoyed the performance too.

Hey Miro, i can see you :)
